American International Group (AIG) reported a higher second-quarter profit, driven by strong underwriting gains and increased investment returns. General insurance net premiums written rose to $6.88 billion, with underwriting income up 46% to $626 million. AIG’s general insurance combined ratio improved to 89.3%, indicating profitability. Net investment income surged 48% to $1.47 billion. The company also saw a decrease in catastrophe-related charges. AIG reported adjusted after-tax income of $1.04 billion, or $1.81 per share. Shares of AIG have risen nearly 8% in 2025, outperforming the Dow Jones U.S. Select Insurance Index.
