Meta is planning a major overhaul of its artificial intelligence efforts, dividing its new AI unit, Superintelligence Labs, into four groups. CEO Mark Zuckerberg aims to fast-track work on artificial general intelligence to outthink humans and create new cash flows. The company is also securing $29 billion in financing for data center expansion in rural Louisiana.
Meta recently reorganized its AI efforts under Superintelligence Labs after staff departures and poor reception for the Llama 4 model. Zuckerberg plans to spend hundreds of billions on AI data centers. The company raised its annual capital expenditures forecast by $2 billion to $66-72 billion, citing rising costs for data center infrastructure and employee compensation.
To fund its data center expansion in Louisiana, Meta has tapped PIMCO and Blue Owl Capital. The company’s expenses are set to grow in 2026 due to infrastructure costs and high employee salaries. Zuckerberg’s push for artificial general intelligence is part of Meta’s strategy to stay competitive in Silicon Valley’s AI race.
