Rolls-Royce will provide 50 mtu Series 4000 engines for high-speed trains in Saudi Arabia, supporting the operation of ten new trains reaching speeds up to 200km/h. Four trains will undergo testing in Europe and Saudi Arabia before deployment, with an option for an additional 40 engines for ten more trains.
Stadler Bussnang ordered the engines, with each 1,500kW engine installed in pairs across the trains. The project lead praised the technology for enabling high speeds while meeting environmental and safety standards. Rolls-Royce’s global rail director highlighted the company’s expansion into regional growth markets with this order.
Rolls-Royce has been providing mtu Series 4000 engines for diesel-powered passenger trains in Saudi Arabia since 2012. The company expressed delight in being the preferred engine supplier for trains in the Arabian peninsula, emphasizing confidence in their products. This order strengthens Rolls-Royce’s presence in the rail application market.
AB Transitio has ordered 13 more KISS double-decker multiple-unit trains from Stadler to enhance its regional transport fleet in the Stockholm Malaren area. This order is part of a contract signed in 2016 between AB Transitio and Stadler to improve regional transport services in Sweden.
