The $9.5 billion Terminal 1 at JFK Airport is taking shape, set to open in mid-2026, replacing the current terminal. It will be dedicated solely to international travelers and will be roughly the size of two LaGuardia Airport terminals. More than half of JFK airlines will change terminals due to construction.
The new terminal will open in time for the 2026 World Cup and will have a capacity for 14 million passengers a year. It will feature 23 gates for wide-body and narrow-body aircraft and over 300,000 square feet of dining, retail, and recreational space. The terminal will have its own microgrid for full resiliency.
