A U.S. appeals court granted Argentina temporary relief from a judge’s order to turn over its 51% stake in YPF to satisfy a $16.1 billion judgment. The court stayed the turnover order while Argentina appeals, giving President Javier Milei’s government a reprieve from economic instability. The judgment was awarded to investors Petersen Energia Inversora and Eton Park Capital Management, represented by Burford Capital. The dispute stems from Argentina seizing the YPF stake from Repsol in 2012 without offering to minority shareholders. Argentina argued the shares were immune under the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act, with the U.S. government supporting this view.
