Flight attendants at Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge have rejected the company’s wage offer by 99.1% in a recent vote, with a high turnout of 99.4%. The wage issue will now go to mediation and potentially arbitration, as per the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). Despite the proposed increase, flight attendants would still earn less than the federal minimum wage of C$17.75 per hour. Air Canada confirmed that there will be no labor disruption, meaning no strike or lockout, and flights will continue as scheduled. The company’s offer included a 12% increase in the first year for some attendants, with annual increases proposed for the following years.
