Asia is set to lead global polyethylene capacity growth by 2030, driven by demand from packaging, construction, and consumer goods sectors. The region plans to add 28.94 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) by 2030, with China and India as key contributors. India’s ‘Haldia Petrochemicals Balasore Polyethylene Plant’ is a major project, set to start operations in 2030 with a capacity of 1.08mtpa. Other significant projects in Asia include ‘Zhejiang Petrochemical Daishan Polyethylene Plant 7 (Swing)’ in China and ‘PT Trans Pacific Petrochemical Indotama Tuban Polyethylene Plant (Swing)’ in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, the Middle East is expected to add 11.79mtpa by 2030, with Iran leading the way. North America will see a capacity increase of 2.60mtpa by 2030, with all projects located in the US.
