European stocks closed lower on Thursday due to concerns about trade policies and Federal Reserve interest rates. The pan European Stoxx 600 fell 0.7%, with the UK’s FTSE 100 down by 0.39%, Germany’s DAX by 0.56%, and France’s CAC 40 by 0.41%. Many other European markets closed weak, while Austria, Ireland, and Turkiye ended higher. In the UK market, Convatec Group and Phoenix Group Holdings suffered losses, while Rio Tinto and JD Sports Fashion saw gains. German and French markets also saw mixed results. Consumer confidence in Germany and France varied, and UK retailers expect sales to decline in October. U.S. economic data showed a decrease in jobless claims and unexpected growth in durable goods orders and GDP. The Commerce Department will release a report on personal income and spending in August on Friday.
