Federal regulators are set to ease restrictions on Boeing (BA), allowing the plane maker to resume final safety checks on 737 MAX jets and potentially increase production. The FAA will gradually restore Boeing’s authority to conduct safety signoffs, while continuing to issue airworthiness certificates. The production cap may be raised from 38 to 42 planes per month, with further increases possible. Restrictions were tightened after 2019 MAX crashes and an incident with Alaska Airlines in 2024. Boeing may also regain inspection authority for its 787 Dreamliner program. The FAA proposed $3.1 million in fines against Boeing for safety violations.
