Arunachal Pradesh has approved a mining lease for Coal Pulz in the Namchik-Namphuk coal mines, signaling a revival of coal mining in the region. The lease signed in Itanagar will see annual production of 200,000 tonnes, generating royalties and creating local jobs. The operations aim to curb illegal mining activities and have received necessary clearances. The coalfields hold 15 million tonnes of reserves and were previously allocated to a state corporation. Mining operations were suspended in 2012 but resumed with Coal Pulz in 2023 after delays. This development follows exemptions for mining proposals involving critical minerals.
