Novo Nordisk’s Rybelsus receives approval from the European Medicines Agency to update its label to include cardiovascular benefits proven in the SOUL trial. The phase 3b study showed a 14% reduction in major adverse cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular or kidney disease compared to placebo. Rybelsus also demonstrated a significant decrease in hospitalizations versus placebo. This approval makes Rybelsus the first oral GLP-1 receptor agonist in the EU to improve blood sugar control and cardiovascular outcomes. A decision on a similar label extension in the U.S. is expected later this year. NVO stock is trading at $55.90, up 1.87%.
