Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced a £2 billion investment in the UK’s AI startup ecosystem. Wayve, a self-driving tech startup, may receive funds. Nvidia participated in Wayve’s $1.05 billion Series C round and is considering a $500 million strategic investment in the next funding round.
Wayve’s self-learning approach to automated driving uses neural networks instead of maps. The system captures data from sensors to inform driving decisions. Wayve plans to sell its “Embodied AI” to automakers and tech companies, offering both assisted and fully automated driving systems.
Wayve’s close relationship with Nvidia includes using Nvidia GPUs in its generation 2 self-driving platform. The new gen 3 platform, powered by Nvidia Drive AGX Thor, will enable advanced driving-assistance and Level 4 driverless features on city streets and highways. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang is enthusiastic about Wayve’s potential, calling it the “next trillion-dollar company.”
Huang recently took a ride in a Wayve-equipped vehicle in London, showcasing the collaboration between the two companies. Wayve’s CEO Alex Kendall highlighted the experience of driving through busy London streets with Huang, emphasizing the progress made with Nvidia’s platform.
