OpenAI and NVIDIA have announced a partnership to deploy multi-gigawatt data centers with NVIDIA GPUs to scale OpenAI’s compute. NVIDIA will invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI as each gigawatt is deployed. This will help OpenAI meet the demands of its AI models and support its growth.
OpenAI’s user base has grown to over 700 million weekly active users since the launch of ChatGPT. To support its advanced AI models, OpenAI’s infrastructure must scale up to meet training and inference demands. This will allow for more impactful use cases without having to choose between them.
The first gigawatt of NVIDIA systems with NVIDIA Vera Rubin GPUs will generate tokens in the second half of 2026. This partnership builds on a long-standing collaboration between NVIDIA and OpenAI, with plans for massive buildout of AI infrastructure worldwide. The goal is to connect intelligence to every application and device.
