Open Country Dairy in New Zealand has acquired Miraka, a Māori-owned dairy business, to enhance its presence in the Central North Island. Miraka produces UHT milk and acts as a co-manufacturer. The acquisition comes shortly after Open Country Dairy agreed to purchase Mataura Valley Milk. Miraka will retain its brand name and continue operations under Open Country Dairy’s ownership. Bruce Scott, Miraka’s board chair, expressed optimism about the acquisition, stating it will help overcome challenges in the global market. Miraka, which started operations in 2010, processes approximately 300 million liters of milk annually.
