Oracle Corp. (NYSE:ORCL) continues to rise after a historic rally, driven by OpenAI’s influence. The software giant saw its largest stock jump since 1992 due to strong earnings from surging cloud commitments. Oracle shares are up 82% year-to-date, adding 27% in the last five sessions, outpacing the S&P 100 Index.
Oracle’s momentum is tied to OpenAI, signing multibillion-dollar cloud contracts that increased performance obligations to $455 billion. OpenAI committed to spending $300 billion on computing power over five years, part of a $30 billion Oracle cloud deal. The tech sector benefits, with Broadcom Inc. climbing 10% after a $10 billion order from OpenAI.
Companies like Microsoft and Nvidia, invested in OpenAI, have benefited from its spending. Together with Oracle, these companies have added $4.5 trillion in market capitalization since 2022. Oracle credited OpenAI for lifting its performance obligations and market valuation briefly touched $930 billion last week.
Despite the surge, some analysts caution against overestimating Oracle’s position in the cloud race. Bessemer Venture Partners described Oracle as a “B-level hyperscaler,” lagging behind Amazon, Microsoft, and Google in infrastructure scale. Oracle stock is trading higher by 3.66% at $303.11.
