The stock market took a hit after the long weekend, with memories of past September struggles looming large. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 249 points, or 0.6%, while the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite dropped 0.7% and 0.8% respectively.

Bond yields saw an uptick, with the 2-year Treasury note hitting 3.66%, the 10-year yield jumping to 4.28%, and the 30-year rising to 4.97% after briefly spiking to 5%. This increase followed a trend overseas, where yields on U.K., German, Dutch, and French debt reached their highest levels in over a decade.
