Wheat futures saw losses on Friday, with CBT soft red wheat down 1-2 cents, KC HRW down 2-3 cents, and MPLS spring wheat down 3-4 ¼ cents. The US dollar index also rose, adding pressure to commodities. Spec funds in Chicago and Kansas City wheat futures reduced their net short positions.
The 7-day forecast predicts 1-3 inches of rain in the eastern Central Plain and Appalachian range. In the Commitment of Traders report, spec funds reduced net short positions in wheat futures. The Export Sales report showed a 5-year high in sales, exceeding last year by 20%.
CBOT wheat closed at $5.22 1/2 for Dec 25, down 1 3/4 cents, while Mar 26 CBOT wheat closed at $5.40 3/4, down 1 3/4 cents. For KCBT wheat, Dec 25 closed at $5.07 1/4, down 2 3/4 cents, and Mar 26 closed at $5.29 1/4, down 2 1/2 cents. MGEX wheat also saw losses.
