The refresh of The Platinum Card® from American Express raised the annual fee to $895, the highest ever for a publicly available travel credit card. Despite the steep fee, new benefits make it easier to offset the cost and offer more value than before.
The Amex Platinum isn’t for everyone, but it offers perks like a $300 digital entertainment credit, $400 Resy credit, and $600 in statement credits on hotel bookings made through Amex Travel. These benefits alone can cover the annual fee and provide additional value.
Other benefits include access to airport lounges, airline fee statement credits, and various statement credits at participating retailers. While the rewards rate on purchases is lacking compared to other cards, the value of the benefits more than compensates for the high annual fee.
The Amex Platinum provides a range of lifestyle and travel benefits that can add up to over $2,000 in value each year. While the rewards rate may not be the best, the perks make it a valuable card for those who can take advantage of the benefits offered.
