Amazon has introduced Blue Jay, a new robotic system designed to enhance warehouse operations. The system features robotic arms with suction cups that can handle objects of various sizes and shapes efficiently. It combines picking, sorting, and consolidating tasks in one workstation, improving efficiency and saving space.

Blue Jay can handle about 75 percent of items processed at Amazon’s sites and is currently being tested at a warehouse in South Carolina. The goal is to reduce physically demanding work for employees while enhancing overall efficiency.

Amazon’s expanding robotics lineup includes Blue Jay and Vulcan, with a focus on automation. The company purchased Kiva Systems in 2012 and has since been investing in robotics to improve operations.

In addition, Amazon has unveiled new augmented reality glasses for delivery drivers powered by AI. The glasses provide turn-by-turn directions, assist with package scanning, and offer safety alerts, including warnings about potential hazards like dogs.

Amazon believes that robotics will enhance worker safety, streamline tasks, and create new career opportunities through training programs. Despite concerns about job displacement, the company is committed to using technology to improve operations and employee well-being.
