AstraZeneca Plc. announced a $4.5 billion investment in a new manufacturing facility in Virginia, supporting a broader range of medicines, including cancer treatments. The facility is expected to create 3,600 jobs, with 600 highly skilled roles and an additional 3,000 jobs during construction. Cutting-edge technologies like AI and data analytics will be used for production optimization. The facility will manufacture drug substances for weight management, metabolic, and cancer portfolios. Construction begins immediately, and operations are expected to start within four to five years as part of AstraZeneca’s $50 billion investment plan.
