Bar Louie, a restaurant chain that filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March, has been acquired by Sun Holdings, which also owns Uncle Julio’s. Sun Holdings now has 39 Bar Louie locations across the US, adding to its portfolio of over 1,800 dining establishments in 27 states.

Bar Louie, founded in 1991, had previously filed for bankruptcy in 2020 and was purchased by BLH TopCo. The recent bankruptcy filing comes after the chain had 31 company-owned and 17 franchised locations across 19 states.

Sun Holdings, known for its extensive restaurant collection, acquired Bar Louie to strengthen its casual dining portfolio. The terms of the deal were not disclosed, as reported by Nation’s Restaurant News.

Sun Holdings President and CEO Guillermo Perales expressed excitement about the acquisition, highlighting Bar Louie’s signature martinis and unique brand as valuable additions to the company’s portfolio. This move aligns with Sun Holdings’ growth strategy.

The bankruptcies of popular restaurant brands like Bar Louie, Razzoo’s Cajun Cafe, Bravo Brio Restaurants LLC, Red Lobster, Tijuana Flats, TGI Fridays, and Hooters reflect the challenging landscape faced by the industry.
