Nexperia, a Dutch chipmaker, has suspended salaries and work account access for employees in China, amid escalating tensions between the Netherlands and China. The move follows the Dutch government seizing control of Nexperia’s management and ousting its Chinese CEO over national-security concerns. The Chinese subsidiary of Nexperia, owned by Wingtech Technology, has taken “self-rescue measures” to maintain its supply chain for domestic customers. The US has imposed export controls on Wingtech, restricting American companies from exporting to Nexperia without a special permit. China has retaliated by prohibiting exports from Nexperia’s Chinese unit. Nexperia reported revenue of US$1.1 billion in the first half of 2025, with nearly half coming from China. The Dutch company is a key supplier to major carmakers and tech firms like Tesla and Apple. Operations at Nexperia’s Chinese plant appear normal, but workers fear being caught in the geopolitical dispute.
