Dr. Clay Johnston, co-founder of Harbor Health, left Dell Medical School to launch the clinic startup in 2021. The company, based in Austin, Texas, offers its own insurance plans and operates 43 clinics. Harbor raised $130 million in September to expand its chain of primary care clinics in Texas and grow its insurance business.

Harbor Health analyzes medical data using AI to predict patient care costs and identify high-risk patients. Despite a decline in family office deals in 2025, healthcare remains a sector of interest. A recent survey found that 28% of family offices planned to overweight healthcare in the next 12 months, with only 10% intending to be underweight.

Johnston emphasized the importance of having full control of healthcare dollars to improve patient outcomes. He highlighted the challenges of convincing investors of the ambitious vision for Harbor Health, stressing the importance of execution. Family offices like DFO Management have backed Harbor since its inception, supporting its growth and expansion.
