Novartis has agreed to acquire Avidity Biosciences, a biotech company focusing on RNA medicines for rare neuromuscular conditions, for $12 billion. Avidity will split off early-stage work on cardiovascular disease into a new company, and the deal is the second-largest this year. Novartis aims to enhance its pipeline for neuromuscular diseases with Avidity’s technology.
