Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang expressed surprise at AMD giving away 10% of the company in a deal with OpenAI. OpenAI will take a 10% stake in AMD as part of a multi-billion dollar AI hardware partnership, making it one of AMD’s largest shareholders.
Nvidia also agreed to invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI to help fund a data center. Huang called the OpenAI-AMD deal imaginative and surprising, given AMD’s upcoming product. OpenAI has committed to buying 6 gigawatts of chips from AMD, receiving warrants for up to 160 million AMD shares.
The deal between OpenAI and AMD includes the purchase of chips over multiple years, including the MI450 series. OpenAI will get warrants for 160 million AMD shares, with vesting based on deployment volume and AMD’s share price. The partnership aims to advance AI technology with cutting-edge hardware.
