Paramount Skydance acquired online publication The Free Press, naming Bari Weiss as CBS News’ editor-in-chief. The Free Press has 1.5 million subscribers, with more than 170,000 paid subscriptions. Weiss founded the publication in 2021 after leaving The New York Times. Paramount reportedly paid $150 million for the acquisition.
Paramount Skydance’s CEO David Ellison made strategic moves post-merger, including a media rights deal with UFC for $7.7 billion and a deal with Zuffa Boxing. The company also secured rights for a Call of Duty film, a distribution agreement with Legendary, and hired the Duffer Brothers. Paramount is exploring a bid for Warner Bros. Discovery.
Ellison has been making key hires post-merger, appointing Makan Delrahim as chief legal officer and adding Dennis Cinelli and Dane Glasgow to the board. The company will focus on AI and tech advancements for streaming services and other operations. Ellison aims to lead the company through a period of social and political change.
