Samsung has maintained its lead over Apple in the smartphone market in the third quarter of the year, according to a report by Omdia. The South Korean tech giant captured 23% of the market share, while Apple held 22%. Samsung’s success was attributed to strong sales of its Galaxy smartphones.
The report also highlighted that Samsung’s shipments grew by 47% year-on-year in the third quarter, outpacing the overall market growth of 17%. This growth was driven by the success of the Galaxy S21 series and the Galaxy A series, which cater to different price segments and consumer preferences.
Despite facing stiff competition from Samsung, Apple managed to hold its ground in the smartphone market with a 22% market share in the third quarter. The launch of the iPhone 13 series helped Apple maintain its market position and attract loyal customers, contributing to its overall success in the quarter.
Overall, the global smartphone market saw a 6% year-on-year increase in shipments in the third quarter of 2021, reaching 342 million units. The recovery was driven by strong demand for 5G smartphones, as well as the easing of supply chain constraints that had previously affected the industry.
