Security Alliance has launched a new tool to help security researchers combat crypto phishing attacks, which resulted in over $400 million in losses in the first half of 2022. The tool, called “TLS Attestations and Verifiable Phishing Reports,” helps verify reported phishing websites. Scammers use “cloaking features” to evade detection by traditional web scanners.
The system works by using a trusted attestation server during the TLS connection, ensuring secure communication online. Users can submit “Verifiable Phishing Reports” that provide cryptographic proof of the content served by a website. Security Alliance can verify these reports without accessing the phishing sites directly, making it harder for attackers to conceal malicious content.
Security Alliance emphasizes that the tool is for advanced users and security researchers only, not the average user. This tool aims to improve collaboration among experts to effectively combat crypto phishing attacks. The system enhances visibility into potentially malicious websites, improving response and prevention efforts in the cybersecurity space.
