Sugar prices surged on Monday, with NY sugar hitting a 1.75-month high after Unica reported lower sugar content in Brazil’s sugarcane crush, signaling decreased sugar production. StoneX projects a global sugar surplus for the upcoming season, while higher sugar output in Brazil and India may further depress prices. Thailand also expects increased sugar production. The International Sugar Organization forecasts a global sugar deficit for the 2025/26 season, the sixth consecutive year of deficits. The outlook for abundant sugar supplies is bearish for prices, with projections of a record global sugar surplus and increased production. Brazil and India are expected to see higher sugar production due to favorable conditions, contributing to the surplus.
