Walmart plans to construct a $300 million fulfillment center in North Carolina for shipping large items like patio furniture and lawnmowers directly to customers. The 1.2 million square-foot facility is expected to open in 2027 and employ 300 people, with a $4 million job development grant from the Commerce Department.

The new Walmart facility in Kings Mountain will play a crucial role in serving customers faster as the company’s e-commerce business continues to grow. The Commerce Department will provide financial support to Walmart over 12 years, contingent on job creation, with the facility expected to open in 2027.

Walmart operates over 214 stores and Sam’s Clubs in North Carolina, with the new fulfillment center in Kings Mountain set to open in 2027. The company is expanding its e-commerce fulfillment capabilities with the addition of the fifth “next-generation” center in Stockton, California, scheduled for next year.
