Harvard University significantly increased its Bitcoin ETF holdings by 257% in the third quarter, making it the largest disclosed position with 6.8 million shares valued at $442.8 million. This move marks a major institutional endorsement of Bitcoin exposure among elite university endowments. Despite earlier skepticism from Harvard economics faculty, the university’s substantial Bitcoin allocation now represents approximately 0.75% of its $57 billion endowment. Analysts predict this allocation could grow to 5% as peer institutions follow suit. Other institutions, like the State of Michigan Retirement System and the State of Wisconsin Investment Board, are also increasing their exposure to cryptocurrency through regulated investment vehicles.
