China has lifted export restrictions on Nexperia chips, easing supply bottlenecks and indicating a potential de-escalation in the dispute with the Dutch-based semiconductor firm. Aumovio, a German automotive supplier affected by the halt, has secured an exemption to resume shipments after facing supply chain strains. The Dutch government is reportedly willing to suspend control over Nexperia if China resumes critical chip exports, following concerns of European production relocation to China. The Netherlands had taken control of Nexperia in September to prevent potential economic security risks, invoking the Goods Availability Act to halt business relocation. Nexperia, headquartered in the Netherlands but owned by a Chinese company, produces widely used semiconductors for vehicles and electronics. Aumovio, formerly part of Continental AG, supplies components to major carmakers like BMW and Volkswagen, routing Nexperia chips from China to its global factories. Despite the lifting of export restrictions, it may take time for operations to normalize, according to Aumovio’s CEO. Nexperia was established in 2017 when NXP sold its Standard Products unit, with Wingtech Technology acquiring a controlling stake in 2019.
