Shares of Amazon.com led the Dow Jones Industrial Average components, rising 4.9% in early trading with a year-to-date gain of 16.8%. Merck was the worst performer, down 1.6% for the day and 15.0% for the year. Verizon Communications fell 1.6% while NVIDIA rose 2.9% on Monday.
