Enbridge has approved $1.4 billion in expansion projects for its Mainline and Flanagan South pipelines to the U.S., adding 250,000 bpd of capacity by 2027. The company also plans to gauge interest in another 250,000 bpd expansion. Despite Canada’s efforts to diversify oil exports, Enbridge believes U.S. expansion is the most logical choice due to strong demand and geopolitical reasons. Alberta is exploring a new pipeline to British Columbia for Asian exports, with Trans Mountain already tripling capacity last year. Enbridge’s U.S. expansions, along with Trans Mountain’s projects, aim to accommodate forecasted supply growth through the decade.
