European stocks closed lower on Thursday as investors took profits following the end of the U.S. government shutdown. The Stoxx 600 fell 0.61%, with the FTSE 100, DAX, and CAC 40 all declining. In the UK, 3i Group’s shares fell 17.5% despite strong earnings, while Aviva closed down 6.1%. Burberry Group saw its first-half loss narrow, but its stock ended weakly. Endeavour Mining surged nearly 6%, while Siemens tanked more than 9% in Germany. In France, Carrefour gained over 2% after the Saadé family acquired a stake. Economic data showed Eurozone industrial production rose 0.2% in September.
