General Motors (GM) is restructuring its software and product businesses, leading to the departure of its third high-profile technology executive, Baris Cetinok, senior vice president of software and services product management. This move comes as GM combines its vehicle software engineering and global product units under new Chief Product Officer Sterling Anderson. Cetinok, who joined GM in 2023, will be leaving the company effective Dec. 12.

In recent months, GM has seen other high-ranking departures, including Dave Richardson, senior vice president of software and services engineering, and Barak Turovsky, head of GM artificial intelligence. Anderson, who left self-driving company Aurora Innovation to join GM, emphasizes the importance of unifying software and product development for the automaker’s success. His goal is to accelerate GM’s pace of innovation.

GM’s aggressive approach to integrating technology into vehicles has led to the recruitment of executives from Tesla, Apple, and Google. However, the company has struggled with retaining these leaders for extended periods. CEO Mary Barra and President Mark Reuss have expressed optimism about Anderson’s ability to drive evolution and reinvention within GM.
