The Hong Kong stock market has been on the rise, gaining almost 675 points in three straight sessions. The Hang Seng Index closed just above 26,920 points and is expected to open higher on Thursday. Global markets are optimistic following the end of the U.S. government shutdown. European markets were up, U.S. bourses were mixed, and Asian markets are expected to follow suit.

On Wednesday, the Hang Seng saw modest gains, with financial, property, entertainment, and technology sectors leading the way. The index closed at 26,922.73, up 0.85 percent. Various stocks in different sectors saw gains, including China Life Insurance, Galaxy Entertainment, and New World Development.

In the U.S., the Dow rose, while the NASDAQ fell, reflecting valuation concerns. The House of Representatives will vote on a bill to end the government shutdown, following Senate approval. Crude oil prices dropped after OPEC’s report indicated a global supply surplus. West Texas Intermediate crude was down 4.31 percent at $58.40 per barrel.
