HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding division delivered the Virginia-class fast-attack submarine Massachusetts (SSN 798) to the U.S. Navy. This is the 12th Virginia-class submarine delivered by NNS and the 25th built under the teaming agreement with General Dynamics Electric Boat. The submarine was christened in May 2023 by ship’s sponsor Sheryl Sandberg. More than 10,000 shipbuilders from NNS and Electric Boat, along with suppliers across the country, including over 20 in Massachusetts, participated in the construction. This delivery marks a significant milestone in increasing the pace of submarine construction, as stated by NNS President Kari Wilkinson.
