Hydro One Networks Inc. has applied to the Ontario Energy Board to build a new 230-kilovolt transmission line in Thorold and Welland, with an investment of approximately C$311 million. The project aims to enhance capacity, reliability, and security of the regional electricity grid by 2029. First Nations in the vicinity have the opportunity to acquire a 50% equity stake in the transmission line segment through Hydro One’s First Nation 50-50 Equity Partnership Model. This initiative is part of efforts to strengthen the regional electricity infrastructure.
