Ionis Pharmaceuticals Inc. announced positive results from Phase 3 studies of olezarsen in patients with severe hypertriglyceridemia, showing up to a 72% reduction in fasting triglyceride levels over 6 months. The therapy also demonstrated an 85% reduction in acute pancreatitis events and 86% of patients reached triglyceride levels below 500 mg/dL. Analysis showed treating 20 patients could prevent one acute pancreatitis event annually, with even better results in high-risk subgroups. Olezarsen also improved overall lipid profiles, leading Ionis to plan an sNDA submission to the FDA by year-end and continue an OLE study for patients opting to continue treatment.
