Westlife Foodworld, the master franchisee for McDonald’s in western and southern India, plans to introduce a 20-minute delivery option on its app to boost sales. The company targets 3-5% same-store sales growth by 2027. CEO Akshay Jatia aims to enhance the delivery business and reduce reliance on third-party platforms.

McDonald’s orders are currently fulfilled through its McDelivery app, Swiggy, and Zomato. Delivery constitutes 40% of Westlife’s total sales. The accelerated delivery model has shown promising results. The franchisee projects cash generation of $4.55m to $5.69m in the year 2025/26 from new strategies.

Facing softer demand in India due to higher living costs, Westlife aims to combat competition from local outlets in metro markets. Rival Jubilant FoodWorks, operating Domino’s in India, has implemented competitive pricing and promised 30-minute delivery. Westlife reported a loss of Rs158.5m for the quarter ended 30 September.

Revenue for Westlife rose by 3.8% to Rs6.42bn, with a gain of Rs581.7m from a store property sale. In January 2024, the company announced plans to open 300 more McDonald’s outlets by 2027. This move comes as the quick-service restaurant sector in India faces challenges due to rising costs and increased competition.
