Elon Musk’s social media platform X has dropped its lawsuit against law firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz over a $90 million fee related to Musk’s purchase of Twitter. The case was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it cannot be refiled. Reasons for the dismissal were not disclosed. X changed Twitter’s name to X after acquiring it in 2022.
A Wachtell spokesperson stated the firm is pleased the lawsuit was dismissed without a settlement. The dispute was ruled to be resolved in private arbitration. X and Wachtell were to update the court in early December. The lawsuit alleged Wachtell received an improper bonus payment during the buyout battle, which the firm denied.
Musk claimed Twitter executives ran up excessive fees before the sale closed. Wachtell defended its actions, stating Twitter’s board approved the fee, leading Musk to honor the merger agreement. Wachtell emphasized its success in achieving value for Twitter’s shareholders through the deal. The details of the Twitter deal work were highlighted in a court filing by Wachtell.
