South Korean conglomerate Posco Group is investing $765 million in an Australian lithium joint venture with Mineral Resources Ltd. This investment secures Posco’s access to 270,000 tons of lithium concentrate annually, allowing them to produce 37,000 tons of lithium hydroxide for electric vehicles. The agreement gives Posco a 30% stake in the new sub-holding company, while MinRes retains 70%. The deal is expected to be finalized in the first half of 2026. Posco’s CEO sees energy materials as a key growth driver and aims to secure a stable supply of raw materials for long-term competitiveness. Additionally, Posco will acquire a 100% stake in Lithium South Development Corporation’s Argentine subsidiary for KRW 95 billion.
