Sainsbury’s reported a 5.2% increase in sales and a retail underlying operating profit of £504m for the period ending September 13, 2025. Statutory profit after tax came in at £165m. Tu Clothing saw a 7.8% sales growth in H1, outperforming the market for the fifth consecutive quarter.

The grocer attributes its success to combining great value with quality design, driving improved customer perception metrics and full price sales. Tu clothing’s success is credited to improved product ranges, better availability, and strong online performance. Sainsbury’s expects a retail underlying operating profit of over £1bn and retail free cash flow of over £500m for the 25/26 period.

CEO Simon Roberts highlighted the company’s strong competitive position, focus on investment, and delivering a winning combination of value, quality, and service. Sainsbury’s had a strong summer, with leading product innovation and outstanding fresh food availability. The company’s offer is strong, leading to confidence heading into Christmas and strengthened profit guidance.
