Toyota has started production at its new $13.9 billion battery plant in North Carolina, with plans to invest up to $10 billion more in the US over the next five years. The facility is Toyota’s first in-house battery plant outside of Japan, announced in December 2021. The investment follows President Trump’s claim that Toyota would invest $10 billion in the US. Toyota’s US sales were up 9.9% through the third quarter of this year, with a more than 51% market share in hybrid sales.
