Ukrainian Railways has awarded Alstom a contract for 55 dual-voltage locomotives, financed by a €300m loan from the EBRD and a $190m grant from the World Bank. Delivery will begin in 2027, with training and spare parts included. The locomotives can reach speeds of 120km/h and will support Ukraine’s economic security and logistics. Ukrainian Railways CEO praised the agreement as a critical step in updating their aging fleet. Alstom CEO highlighted the company’s commitment to modernizing Ukraine’s rail transport infrastructure. Ukrainian Railways has maintained operations during Russia’s invasion in 2022, supporting exports and passenger movement. The EBRD continues to support Ukrainian Railways with recent financing initiatives for infrastructure upgrades. Alstom has been operating in Ukraine since 2012 and recently opened a new train component overhaul and repair facility in the UK.
