Wabtec is investing $3.7m to expand operations in Brazil, focusing on engineering and manufacturing in Contagem, Minas Gerais. A new global engineering center, opening in December, will house labs and workspaces for 300 professionals, supporting projects for domestic and international markets. The facility is expected to increase production capacity by 28%.

By 2026, Wabtec aims to produce 1,000 locomotives at the Contagem plant, with over 1,000 employees between the factory and engineering center. The expansion reflects confidence in the Brazilian market and the team’s ability to deliver quality products and services. Wabtec also plans to open logistics centers in Minas Gerais and São Paulo.

Wabtec and Vale have agreed to test a dual-fuel engine capable of running on diesel and ethanol blend. Testing through 2027 will evaluate performance and emissions, potentially substituting ethanol for diesel in the Vitória-Minas Railway fleet. The expansion signifies Wabtec’s commitment to innovation and excellence in serving global railroads.
