Wayfair’s mixed customer behavior is impacted by competition, housing market concerns, and tariffs. Despite a 8.1% increase in total net revenue to $3.1 billion, the company faced a net loss of $99 million in the third quarter of 2025. Active customers decreased by 2.3%, but repeat customers placed 80.1% of total orders. Wayfair CEO remains hopeful despite a sluggish housing market, noting a shift towards stability in the home decor category. The U.S. housing market saw a 1.5% increase in existing-home sales in September, with unsold inventory rising by 1.3%.

Tariffs have not significantly impacted Wayfair’s sales, as consumers remain cautious. Wayfair expects mid-single digit revenue growth during the holiday season. Consumers plan to spend $890.49 on average for holiday items, with 63% waiting until Thanksgiving weekend to shop. Wayfair plans to use artificial intelligence to enhance the shopping experience. Tan, the Chief Technology Officer, mentioned a new AI-powered feature called ‘Complete the Look’ to help customers style their rooms efficiently.
