APA Group and CS Energy have agreed to develop a 400MW gas-fired power station, the Brigalow Peaking power project, near Chinchilla in Queensland. The station will support renewable energy sources and be operational in 2028. APA will lead the project and own 80% stake, while CS Energy will have a 20% ownership and operate the facility. GE Vernova will supply the gas turbines for the project. APA plans to hedge against electricity price fluctuations with a 25-year agreement with CS Energy. The project is expected to meet return benchmarks and be financed from existing resources. Updates on the project are expected in mid-2026. The plant will be connected to APA’s Roma Brisbane pipeline. APA CEO Adam Watson highlighted the need for investment in gas-powered generation to support Australia’s energy transition and renewable integration.
