A recent study reveals that auction prices for iconic Hermès Birkin bags are falling, despite recent high-profile sales. Prices for secondhand Birkin and Kelly bags have dropped from pandemic highs, with the average resale premium declining from 2.2 to 1.4 times in November. Luxury experts attribute this to inflation and a slowing job market, as well as increased supply of secondhand bags on the market.

While auction prices may be dropping, the demand for Birkin and Kelly handbags remains strong, with the majority selling for more than their original retail price. Hermès continues to dominate the luxury market, with eight bag styles selling for above their original sale price in 2025. Despite leveling off in recent years, resale prices for Birkin bags have nearly doubled since 2015, highlighting the brand’s enduring popularity among consumers.
